Dangerous chemicals are still stored and sold openly in parts of old Dhaka. The people who are selling the flammable chemicals have no idea about highly flammable chemicals. Old Dhaka is a densely populated place with narrow lanes and by-lanes. In the event of a fire, it is very difficult for the fire fighters to control the situation. The Nimtoli fire incident is still fresh in our memory. It happened in 2010 and 124 people died on that fateful night. There are many others who are yet to recover from the trauma. Specific regulations are in place for storage of dangerous chemicals which must be complied with properly for public safety.
